Quality control of cabin air filters for passenger cars

Passenger compartments in modern cars are protected from pollen, dust and unpleasant odours by cabin filters made of activated carbon. The flawless manufacture of the filters is of great importance to guarantee that the filter effect is not impaired. Damages or deformations of the slats, the side strip and the sealing strip must therefore be excluded.

Machine vision ensures high quality and prevents the delivery of damaged filters.

The testing of the cabin filters is performed by the aku.filterInspect system in three test sequences, which are divided as follows: Print image check and size accuracy, position and setting check of the slats as well as contamination and damage to the filters.

For a 100% inspection of the filters, a double-sided inspection is required. After testing the top side, the filters passes a star which turns it 180°. The bottom side gets inspected in the same procedure as the characteristics listed above.

When all tests have been passed without errors, the filters can be fed into the further production process. Faulty filters are automatically removed from the process.
