AI-supported installation control of heat pumps

Heat pumps are an important method of heating modern buildings while at the same time protecting the environment. The challenge for the customer was to precisely check the variety of types of its heat pumps during installation. It had to be ensured that all components were installed correctly. It was essential for the customer to find a flexible and modular automation solution that was not only high-tech, but also easy to operate and understand for its employees.

The aku.visionManager® software developed by aku combines artificial intelligence with the interface to the production control system. Our state-of-the-art camera system, consisting of a station with five cameras, inspects the heat pumps on a feed conveyor. A total of 68 different features are checked on each heat pump. These features are checked for presence and correct installation in a separate neural network. In this way, it is possible to switch different types (which may not have all the features) on and off, ensuring maximum flexibility. By using deep learning, our system is able to detect even the smallest deviations and errors that human inspectors often miss.

The use of the aku.visionManager® enables the customer to carry out a reliable and highly complex inspection that can still be operated and understood by all his employees. Installation errors are identified quickly and reliably, which ensures the quality of the heat pumps and minimizes complaints. The high detection accuracy and adaptability of the solution ensure continuous quality improvement as well as time and cost efficiency in production.
