Efficient identification of batch numbers in the cosmetics industry

In the cosmetics industry, the clear identification and traceability of products is of crucial importance. Batch numbers or lot numbers serve as the key to assigning products to specific production processes.

In an automated process, the cosmetic jars are supplied to a 2D camera system via transport cups. Due to the variety of glass colors (yellow, beige, blue, white) and the possibility that the batch number can be applied to other text, identification is a particular challenge. To optimize the contrast between the label and the applied lettering, two images are taken with different light colors (white light and infrared light). These two images are combined and subtracted using the aku.visionManager® software, leaving only the difference between the images. This approach enables reliable identification of the batch number, regardless of color variations and background text.

All in all, the solution offers a reliable and efficient method for batch number recognition in the cosmetics industry. This helps to increase production quality, improve traceability and ultimately strengthen consumer confidence in the products.
