Check for intactness and completeness of cardboard boxes

A customer specializing in cardboard cans in the packaging industry is looking for increased process stability and improved quality assurance. The objective includes the inspection of transparent contaminations on the surface of the cardboard cans. In addition, the presence of the best-before date and the completeness of the packed cartons should be checked.

The top of the container is checked for contamination using innovative hyperspectral technology. The camera used detects leaks based on moisture differences in the near infrared wavelength range. This effect causes water droplets to stand out as dark features on the cardboard box surfaces. The system is also being expanded to include the best-before date code check, which uses 2D technology to check the presence of the code. A completeness check is also carried out on the cartons in the film, whereby the camera can recognize 6, 12 or 24 cans per carton. The different variants are selected via the user-friendly aku.visionManager® interface. The customer is able to independently teach new types of cardboard boxes into the system to ensure a high degree of flexibility.

Process stability is significantly improved by precise and comprehensive inspections. This helps to ensure the quality of the packaged products and minimize waste. The user-friendly interface allows the customer to adapt to different types of cardboard boxes with little effort. All in all, the implementation of this system results in increased product quality, reduced costs for rejects and complaints and increased customer satisfaction.
