Initial situation

Electrical plug connections becomes increasingly importance in electric mobility. In the field of power electronics, currents flows in a considerable rate. In addition, safety-relevant sensors distribute their information with the on-board network of the vehicle in using a large number of connectors.

A 100% quality is a basic requirement for a reliable function for all environmental conditions in the mentioned application areas above.

Implementation

In using a laser triangulation sensor, a height profile image of the complete connection plug is generated. Depending on the manufacturing process, the sensor can be moved with one axis above the connector or the connector is moved past the sensor. Positions of the individual pins are measured in X and Y position (tumbling circle). In addition, the height accuracy is measured in „Z“ of the pins. Depending on the design of the connector, further features such as contour or codes can be checked and scanned.

Customer benefits

The visualization gives the customer a precise overview of the measured values and parameters. All measured values can be stored in relation with the connector ID and will be facilitating traceability. In addition, all image data of the connector can be recorded via image recording and will be available for reporting and analysis.
